A variation is an attribute that changes from one version of a product to another (such as color or size) – variation listings allow sellers to offer all of those different options as a single product with variation options within the listing. This helps keep your store organized and creates a more professional feeling experience for your customers.
SureDone accomplishes this by listing the original product (or “Parent”) and then creating a variation or variations based off that (“Child” or "Children").
Step-by-Step Guide to Create Variations in SureDone
There are four major steps to setting up variations from scratch in SureDone:
Create Variation Dimensions
Create the Variation Parent
Add Variants to the Parent
Relist/Publish item
1. Create Variation Dimensions
By default, your account can handle variations of size, color, and style. If you already use variations and import them, your account will automatically adjust to accept those variable fields. If you need to map another variable field, follow these steps:
Navigate to Settings > Products & Inventory, then expand the "SKUs" section.
Here, you will see a list of the Variation Fields that have already been mapped.
If your variable field is not listed, proceed to Step 2.
From the Variation Fields Set dropdown, select the fields you want to add to the variable field mapping.
⚠️ Note: If you want to map a field that does not appear on the list, you may need to create a custom field. Refer to the guide on How To: Create Custom Fields for assistance.
Click "Save Settings" to apply the changes.
2. Create the Variation Parent
Navigate to Products > New Product to create a new item.
Create a draft of the parent listing by filling out all the necessary product information.
For detailed instructions, see How To: Add A Product.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: You must include a value in the field(s) you plan to vary on in the parent item.
Click "+ Create Draft" (NOT " + Add") to save your draft.
❗ Important: If you click "+ Add", the variations will not be added to the channel when you perform a relist.
The parent item will be saved in Draft status.
3. Create Variations
Open the Action Menu
In the product created in the previous step, open the "- Select Action -" menu and select Create Variation.
Create the First Variation
The Create Variation modal will appear.
The SKU remains the same, but the GUID (Global Unique ID) must change. If you don't generate the GUID yourself, a "-1" will be automatically appended.
Modify Variable Information
In the modal, change the variable information (e.g., Color field) and click Create.
Note: Only fields set up in your variation settings can be varied.
Change the variation image (Optional)
In the Mediasection, add or upload an image.
Special Note on Images: Ensure images match across all variations.
Save the Image to the variation
Click Update to save.
Repeat for Additional Variations
Repeat steps 4 through 5 for each additional variation.
4. Relist/Publish item
Once all variation children are made, go to the parent listing and open the Variations modal.
Click on the parent link inside the modal.
Ensure the channels you want to list are checked in the "Send to" section.
Click “Relist/Publish Item.”
To activate later, search for sku:######## in the editor.
